Creative Ideas: 5 Simple Exercises
Do you consider yourself creative? Chances are that you answered no to this question. Too often, we think that people are divided into two categories: Creative People and Non-Creative People. The truth is, that we can all be in the Creative People category by practicing a few simple exercises to spark creativity.
1. Embrace the outlandish
When you need a solution to a problem consider every possible idea, even if it seems ridiculous. Throw out any value judgments and let your mind run wild. The answer to your problem may surface in one, or more, of these off-beat suggestions.
2. Keep a notebook
When a good idea comes to mind, get in the habit of writing it down. Carry your notebook with you everywhere you go. You never know when true inspiration will strike. Then, when you are stuck for a good idea, you can refer to your notebook for help.
3. Change your routine
We become mired in the routine of our daily lives. Do something new, occasionally, and you will see the world differently. This could be as simple as driving a different route than you would normally or reading a book you might not have read before. Change can stimulate creative thinking.
4. Learn new things
Never stop learning. Keep abreast of the latest developments in fields that interest you. Learn a new skill or update a current one. The more you know, the better prepared you will be when opportunities are presented.
5. Practice
Exercise your creative thinking processes regularly. Not all your solutions will succeed, but learn from your mistakes and move on.
